Resume Tip – Show Career Progression

“Tom, I had two related but distinct roles at one company over 6 years. How do I show 6 years of tenure at one company while representing two jobs at two locations?”

Holding multiple jobs with one company is what employers look for! Progression within one organization demonstrates that you made a significant contribution, and were recognized by being offered a new position. Plus, multiple roles within one company demonstrates real versatility. But how do you showcase this on your resume? Read on.

Multiple Roles in One Company

If you are a logistics superstar who has progressed within your organization, here’s how to display holding multiple roles in one organization:

On your resume (or LinkedIn profile) under work experience, list the company name and dates of employment, followed by a little information about the company.  After that, put your most recent (or current) job title and the dates you held that job, followed by a bulleted list of accomplishments relating to that role.  Then do the same thing with your previous role.  And the one before that.  Simple!

Here’s what it should look like:

Company Name, Location                                                Dates of employment
Insert a few lines about the company. This blurb is something you can often pull directly from the company website. Perhaps also include details about the size of team, scope of work.
Most Recent Job Title                                                         Dates
• Accomplishments / Achievements
• Duties / Responsibilities
Second Job Title                                                                    Dates
• Accomplishments / Achievements
• Duties / Responsibilities
