“Hi Tom, thanks for reaching out but I am not currently looking for new opportunities.”

I responded with, “That’s OK, thanks for getting back to me.  Most of my supply chain contacts are not actively looking for new opportunities, but if you’re open to a quick conversation just give me a call.  Who knows, maybe your situation will be different in a year or two, so it could be a good idea for us to connect.”

What do you think?  Is it ever a BAD idea to have a conversation with a recruiter who specializes in your industry?  Even if you’re not “looking” do you think there might be some benefit in a quick conversation?  Let me know in the comments!
